Mayor Bowser Announces Key Appointments

(Washington, DC) – Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced two appointments in her Administration:

Director Kim Bassett, to be Secretary of the District of Columbia.
Ms. Bassett previously served as Director of the Mayor’s Office on Women’s Policy and Initiatives. The former Executive Director of The Wireless Foundation, the philanthropic affiliate of CTIA-The Wireless Association, and Director of External Affairs for Verizon Washington, DC, Ms. Bassett brings to her new role extensive experience in community engagement, government relations, employee advocacy, and management. In her work as Director of Programs for DC Vote and as Director of Programs and Partnerships for The Stephen Case Foundation (AOL), she built expertise in working across large organizations and creating efficiencies. Ms. Bassett holds a Bachelor of Arts from North Carolina Central University and a Master of Arts from North Carolina A&T State University.

 

Jason R.L. Wallace, to be Executive Director of the Commission on Fathers, Men, and Boys.
Mr. Wallace previously served as the Director of Volunteer and Community Supports at Martha’s Table, where he led overall strategy as it relates to volunteer efforts and community support programming. This work included McKenna’s Wagon, a mobile food truck that goes out seven days a week, 365 days a year to provide food to residents experiencing homelessness at three downtown locations. Before joining Martha’s Table, Mr. Wallace was the Founder and Executive Director of Community ONE, Inc., an experiential learning non-profit that exposes at-risk children to interesting careers through interactive games. In 2008, Mr. Wallace served in The White House under President George W. Bush in the Office of Freedom Corps which promoted volunteerism. Soon after, Mr. Wallace was appointed by President Barack Obama to create, plan, and execute messaging trips on behalf of the President, First Lady Michelle Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretaries Shaun Donovan and Julián Castro. Mr. Wallace received his bachelor’s degree from Howard University
