Mayor Bowser Announces Key Appointments

(Washington, DC) – Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced a series of appointments in her Administration:

Barbara Bazron, to be Acting Director of the Department of Behavioral Health
Dr. Bazron comes to the Administration from her post as Deputy Secretary of the Maryland Department of Health’s Behavioral Health Administration – the division responsible for treatment of substance abuse, gambling disorders, and mental health services for the state. Prior to service as Deputy Secretary, she served as Interim Director and Senior Deputy Director of the District’s Department of Behavioral Health where she oversaw children, youth, and adult services, emergency and disaster planning, housing, forensic services, care coordination, and provider services. Dr. Bazron holds a Bachelor of Arts from Oberlin College, a Master of Education from the University of Cincinnati, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh.

Gabriel Robinson, to be Acting Director of the Department of Motor Vehicles
After serving as the Chief Operating Officer at the Department of Public Works (DPW) since 2016, Mr. Robinson became the Interim Director of the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in March 2019. At DPW, he was the senior executive and leader for all administrative operations and responsible for coordinating and implementing all strategic decisions for human capital, training and development, labor relations, information technology, agency performance, communications, administrative services, risk management, and procurements. Prior to serving at DPW, Mr. Robinson served at the Department of Motor Vehicles from 2005 until 2016. From 2012 until 2016, he served as an Associate Director at the DMV. Mr. Robinson holds as Associate of Arts in Business Administration from Okaloosa–Walton Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Human Resources from Florida State University.

Nicholas Majett, Esq. to be Administrative Law Judge on the DC Contract Appeals Board
Mr. Majett was recently the Chief Administrative Officer for Prince George’s County Government. As the Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Majett was the highest appointed official in the county and oversaw the day-to-day operations of the county government with review and approval authority over multi-million dollar purchasing budgets and handled contract disputes at the award and performance levels. In addition, Mr. Majett served as a Board and Committee Member to the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG), District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (DC Water), the Pension Trust Fund Board of Trustees and Chaired the Position Review Board. Mr. Majett previously served in DC Government in several capacities for over 29 years. In 1985, he joined the DC Office of the Attorney General (formerly the Office of the Corporation Council) and served as an Assistant Attorney General for approximately 19 years. He also served as the Chief of Assessment Services for the Office of Tax and Revenue. In 2011, Mr. Majett became the Director of the DC Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) where he was responsible for the overall management and oversight of the agency. Mr. Majett is a member of the District of Columbia Bar Association and currently serves on the steering committee of the District of Columbia Affairs Community.
